All I can say is that in my listening experience. ...and I am sorry to say
this as it may seem biased... I would also like to add that this is based
on the balance attained from going to see performesnces outside the
symphony as well as more isolated venues where smaller ensembles dwell, as
in yesterday afternoon at the rotunda near the boat basin in manhatten...
that generally the statistics to my ear at least tell me that women are the
better: flutists; cellists; yes and I am sorry to say my dear fellows (if
this upsets anyone-please be kind) women are overall far better in their
expression and interpretation in most classical music. IMHO. I would like
to hear a better balance of men to women both live and on reecord.

For the record I believe there is also an unspoken bias with gender. Women
tend to be treated unfairly. But then all musicians seem to be treated
unfair. This is America - America has no support for arts outside of
corporate noise.

Cheers, Leo

"You Take The High Notes" http://helius.carroll.com/p/leo_g/ There is a
difference between "dealers" and musicians that love not only the sound of
music but the tools which make it possible for people to play music. It's
important to set things free so they may ultimately find their way to
their intended parties. I am especially interested in Musical Instrument
History and technical data. Please email me with interesting links. Thank
you:-) Leo
