Ann,

Please forgive my somewhat snappish reply. It was a stupid thing to say,
because of couse you know that. My apologies. It was a poorly thought out
reply.......I was an OAF!

Also.......I have what I call a rubber embouchure. I seem to be able to play
on ANY rational set-up. In my formative years, I played on soprano, Eb, bass
clarinets, alto, tenor and bari sax. Didn't seem to be any difference. If it
had a single reed, I adapted. Same with oboe and bassoon later on when I was
taking methods classes.

I'm only saying this because I easily forget that certain individuals NEED
specific facings and/or setups.

I had a very good example of that recently. I had a visitor, in my
studio/workshop/garrett recently, and he wanted to see if I could help him
get a richer bass clarinet sound with a new mouthpiece.

We started with my standard facing, which for a bass mouthpiece is
.....hmmmmm.....close and long.

It became obvious fairly quickly that this paradigm was not going to work for
this individual.

We started with a new blank, and I put a facing on it with a nice medium tip
opening, and a fairly short facing! BINGO!....... As good a bass clarinet
tone as you will hear anywhere......

So I really need to think before I speak....sometimes the evidence is right
before my eyes!!!!!

WG

Gotta love this stuff, don't ya?????
