The numbers inscribed in the record are master numbers. I just looked at
an album of my own from that era, company, and orchestra (Rachmaninoff 2nd
Symphony, ML5436). In that case, the numbers on the two sides are
basically consecutive: "XLP-48569-1C" and "XXLP-48570-1A." On your record,
the two recording were not on the same date, or probably in the same studio
(or even country) which would account for the large difference in master
numbers. Your LP may still have been the first release of either master.
The album number is what counts for release date, although the master
number gives more information on the date RECORDED.
