It's an extended bass clarinet, and I guess it is the same as a basset
clarinet, now I think about it. My bass is the same - goes right down to
bottom C. There's a fantastic part for extended bass in the Khachaturian
Piano Concerto, and you need one for the Revualtas "Sensemaya" (don't EVER
play this if you can avoid it - 4 pages of low Eb-low E without stopping;
major pain for the little finger). Low C basses are great!
