A trick I learned 30 years ago enables you to hand hold at fairly
low speeds. Hold the camera upside down, with the body pressed firmly
into your forehead and your arms bent up at the elbows, with the elbows
pressed into your ribcage. Use your thumb on the shutter release. This
"3-point" stance lets you handhold with virtually no shake as low as
1/15 sec.
Just remember to exhale slowly as you shoot. This is an old skiers
trick for crossing ice patches ... apparently when you are exhaling it
is more difficult for muscles to "tense up" ... causing spills on skis
and shakes on cameras. I exhale while shooting firearms and I feel it
helps keep the sights steady.
