Klarinet Archive - Posting 001364.txt from 2000/04
From: "redcedar" <redcedar@-----.au> Subj: RE: [kl] Gender bias survey? Date: Sun, 30 Apr 2000 10:00:43 -0400
The following is indicative, rather than definitive.
A scan of the selected klarinet posts I've filed from the past
four-and-a-half months reveals:
192 unduplicated email addresses (roughly a quarter of the list membership
from memory)
of these:
148 posters had male names
39 posters had female names
3 posters fell into the "DK" category.
The foregoing is a poor, and potentially biased, survey sampling
methodology, but as I said at the outset, it is indicative - that is,
roughly three-quarters of the sample's posters were male.
I suspect a volume analysis of posts would yield results not significantly
different from the above.
"David/Dave" is the most common name occurring, next followed by
"Jim/James".
Just some mindless trivia, the collection of which helps pass a sultry
non-seasonal Autumn Sunday in Sydney.

Not so good. Only a small percentage of listers post - we'd end up with a
survey of posters, not a survey of players.
