It's an informal survey. Certain instruments are reputed to be
played mostly by one gender or the other -- example: clarinet is a
woman's instrument, trumpet is a man's instrument, tuba is a man's
instrument, harp is a woman's instrument, and so forth.
Of course, there are male clarinet virtuosos and female trumpet
virtuosos, etc. But what about the general music-making public? Are
women really more likely to play the clarinet and leave the trombone to
men? Or not?

So if you know how many players in a group -- jazz band, ensemble,
community band, professional orchestra, whatever -- play one of these
allegedly gender-biased instruments, including bass and contrabass
instruments, then you can post your numbers here. One of us is
accumulating the numbers and is about ready to post a tabulation
thereof.
