One must realize that some of the bands in the military services date back
almost to the Revolution. Of the bands i served in, Navy Band Great Lakes
was founded in 1917 by John Philip Sousa. Navy Band San Diego is just this
side of the last turn of the century, I think (not sure of this one), and
the premiere bands in Washington are much older than the fleet bands. I
believe the U. S. Military Academy Band at West Point dates back to 1823.
I believe there is a member of that band lurking on the list. Is this date
correct?
