Regarding the thumb F/G trill:
1. The Bb jump key works on some horns, but its pretty flat. Keep the
thumb down and trill with the side Ab/G#. I just have a twitchy thumb, so I
do it the hard way!
2. Or you can imitate Benny Goodman, in that wonderful NBC Symphony
broadcast performance. Benny just starts the trill one octave lower, and
takes his time. BTW this recording is the one with the glorious squeek on
the top of the first gliss. A humbling experience for BG, uou betcha!
