What does Laurie Bloom do? Does he switch to a German system bass at the same
time? (Tongue in cheek here.)

I can't tell you much without speculating, which I would rather not do. I
heard the orchestra a few months ago at Carnegie, and they used their
Wurlitzers on Mahler 5.

I do not believe Mr. Bloom uses anything other than his Buffet bass, but I
cannot say for sure. Interestingly enough, George Weber, long time bass
clarinetist of the CSO, used a Oehler system bass clarinet (which has somehow
disappeared, apparently). Weber's Oehler system basset horn is still around
and was played by Larry Combs on the "Mozart music for clarinets" album a
while back.
