Source for cane?

Rumor has it that someone was going to go commercial with growing Arundo Donax and planted somewhere around Sacramento-Stockton, CA just before WW2. Something happened and the fields were eliminated but some went wild and got into the river-levee-slough systems in the areas. Some players used it, others
didn't like it. Some said it had a taste aquired from the muck it grew in. I tried some and thought it was ok but it takes too long to make reeds from scratch. I went back to reworking commercial reeds.
