I realize that competition is part of life, and this includes
music, especially when money is involved.
But this thread began with a question about community bands. I
must say that it discourages me to see so much emphasis on competition
in what (IMO) is supposed to be a "fun for everyone" sort of musical
enterprise.

Like it's no fun without the competition?
