Many people say that the Legere reeds come in strengths which are slightly lighter than a corresponding Vandoren reed (V 12). In other words, if you play a Vandoren 3 1/2, buy Legere 3 3/34.

Could this perhaps be an illusion based on the fact that the Legere reeds come already balanced?

yes....I have Legere reeds...lots of them
3 3/4's too!
