I want to make sure I have been clear on this as we seem to be discussing two
different techniques.

To ADD resistance, as a substitute for clipping, I do exactly what Abe does
above. Drawing the sandpaper ACROSS the edge of the reed, sandpaper
perpendicular to the reed.

To TAKE AWAY resistance, I sand the tip of the reed reed, holding it on a
flat piece of glass. I sand back and forth across the tip of the reed, to
about 1 to 2 mm back from the tip.

Read "tip" as the final portion of the vamp of the reed, a 1 to 2 mm
semicircle which is the thinnest and most delicate part of the reed.

Read "edge" as the SAME area help upright, and viewed similarily to the edge
of a blade.
