The band I play has a wildly fluctuating number of clarinets. Our princip=
al is
also the assistant conductor and used to play with the Atlanta Symphony. =
The
seating system our section came up with was for all the people who wanted=
a
chance to play first to put their names on a list. Then they rotate throu=
gh
the list. Myself and one gentleman I play with declined to put our names =
on
the list because we couldn't see why anyone in their right mind would wan=
t to
play first. I am one of 2 females who regularly show up. There are about =
5
males who regularly show up. Our bass player is female right now, but she=

trades off every few months or so with one of the males in our section. W=
hen
we have an alto clarinet, it is played by a female. We do have a female
trombonist and a female french horn player.
