I am also a member of two community bands, and I'm also curious about
this...I only recently joined the two bands, One being the Williamsport
Repasz band which is the oldest non-military band in continuous existance,
the second being the Teteque Band which is supposedly the oldest masonic
sponsored band in the world. Just recently they began letting women in the
band after being an all male organization for over 100 years and i was in the
first few to join. Anyways, In the Repasz band, I believe it appears to be a
'seniority rules' basis, being those who have been in the band the longest
have higher chairs. In the Teteque band, it's more of a decision that the
players make amongst themselves. Anyhow, I was just also curious as to how
other community bands decide seating placement.

Thanks!
