Bill Wright makes the observation:
> The nifty part about it is that some of the advanced players
>volunteer to play with the beginners each week and help out.
> The one requirement that strikes some people as unusual is: you
>can't play in either band unless you're 50 years old or older.

I played for a couple years in the Eastman Community Education New Horizons
Band composed of Seniors over 50. It was big, sometimes numbering 18
members
in the clarinet section alone. It was split in equal halves for concerts
largely because of space problems at the concert site. Interestingly there
were no ego problems associated with clawing for chair positions because of
the inherent maturity of the musicians. They would move about automatically
to fill in the parts. Playing in that band was a study in playing
pianissimo.
Wait till your are 75 and see how many things you once thought were
earth-shaking
no longer are. Now where did I put my car keys. Oh yeah, whatzername, my
wife, has them.

Don Longacre, who...
has a lot of nerve implying he's mature.
Senile is more like it.
