Lorell G. asked about auditions/seating issues in community bands
(post included below):

I currently play in three community groups, one of which
auditions (for entrance and seating). The music director of that
group just announced that prior to the beginning of our next season
_everyone_ will be reauditioned for seating. I don't know if he
plans on doing that on a regular basis (we're only in our second
season, so there's no real history to go by), but it certainly seems
tough to argue with, since everyone is re-auditioning.

The two groups that don't already have an audition policy are
harder to deal with. I too will be interested in hearing how other
bands who don't audition handle this.
