I didn't see any reponse to this. I don't have any first hand knowledge
but didn't someone (Dan Leeson?) say that the German orchestras owned
these (which would suggest that they can be made in Germany). However, I
might be recalling the discussion of the Bb basset clarinet.

I know that Selmer used to make an A Bass clarinet. Does anyone still
make
one? What about the English and European makers? I'm just curious.
