I take a inch square piece of 320 wet or dry sandpaper, always working on the
reed when it is wet. I support the reed on a flat strip of glass, and sand
back and forth, with the area being sanded directly UNDER my fingertip,
across the tip of the reed, until I have the flexiblity I desire.

Of course, too much sanding will feather the tip of the reed, so you must
know when to stop,

There is no substitute for practise, and yes, you will ruin some reeds until
you get it right. For final finishing, I will use a square of 600 strength
sandpaper.
