'Quantify' is not synonymous with 'logic', of course; but in this
same vein, I have a book sitting on my bookshelf that I haven't read yet
by a neurologist who has won his share of scientific awards and who had
a part in "elucidating Alzheimer's Disease." So I assume that he's not
a flake.
According to the cover and a NY Times review, the thesis of his
book is that humans cannot think 'logically' in the absence of emotion
and that emotion actually contributes to logic and makes it more
'logical'. Thinking about music in the absence of logic (or with only
logic) seems unlikely as well.
So this will be an interesting book to read, I think. The title is
Descartes' Error: Emotion, Reason and the Human Brain, by Antonio R.
Damasio MD, paperback for $13.50.
