Correction. I DID make my own reeds. I don't now for two reasons: 1.) I dont have enought time to make both reeds AND mouthpieces; 2.) The people I make mouthpieces for use commercial reeds (so hopefully I can fit them better).

I usually use Vandoren V12 3 1/2 or 4, and Legere's 3 3/4 (love those 3 3/4, they fit me so good)

Without running any studies or experiments, I'd say that fitting the curve of the reed tip to the mouthpiece
tip would be optimal, but it is much less important than the width and general condition of the mouthpiece tip rail.

Major improvements can be made to a mouthpiece by altering the tip rail *** just so *** about 1 mm thick, flat and even, and well smoothed off.

When I round the tip of a mouthpiece with the BIG OLD flat file. I try to round it to the general shape of a Vandoren.
