Yes Walter, it does. The only reference I know of relating to pinched fibers
was a story my Grampaw used to tell concerning the Fibera family who
were notorious bootleggers during prohibition days and flagrantly ran booze
into Ohio from across Lake Erie. One night with a cargo of Canadian Whiskey
aboard they encountered a Coast Guard Cutter who boarded them and the
Fiberas got Pinched! Yuk, Yuk, Har de Har Har! Enough folderol.

In my experience the reed cutter must be sharp, able to shear off cleanly one
half millimeter or less. Some of the trimmers on the market, the Rigotti, I
believe, round the corners of the reed and it doesn't quite conform to the curve
on American mouthpieces. Whether or not this is detrimental, I don't know. Is
the "rounded corner" a European style, Walter? Also, some Vandoren reeds favor
the rounded corner even though their mouthpieces tend to be well-cornered lending
a certain incongruence between the mouthpiece curve and the reed curve. I know
you make your own reeds and this is probably not a problem you run across. My
choices these days are the German made Esser in French cut which fit the tips of
my B40, 5RV13L and Johnston mps perfectly. Please comment, if so inclined, I'd
like your thoughts on this tip curve business, but to paraphrase the toiletpaper
manufacturers, "Please don't crush the fibers!" (=<=)
