Author - Robert Heinlein
Novel - The Moon is a Harsh Mistress

I believe it derives from a Russian word. In his novel, the moon had been a
penal colony for the nations of Earth ala Botany Bay. He incorporated a
number of Russian terms in the "local dialect" for the society he devised
for this moon colony.

Dee Hays (a major fan of Robert Heinlein).
