Lori, from what I remember, Joe was really kind. One of the things he
really helped me with (I only had about three or four lessons with him
before I quit new England Conservatory - long, dull story ) was relaxation
and evening out my timber between registers. He had me doing a reverse of
the twelfth exercise. I was doing upper to lower, with the change only in
my embouchure and no throat attached. I think we did some other stuff - I
know there were some long tones, and I worked on the Nielsen briefly, but
once I left Boston and moved back to Virginia, i was in a funk and didn't
study for a while (depression is never good for one's drive to play an
instrument, IMHO)
I studied with him in September of 1981.
I'd like to hear your experiences with hi, as well.
Patty Smith
