Three suggestions:
1) Ask you teacher how she thinks the reed tips got that shape when they
were made,
2) make sure your trimmer blade is sharp, otherwise you'll have a ragged
cut (and probably pinch the fibers together), and
3) if your reed is loose, tighten the ligature, or you may lose the
quality of sound.
