One of the points that I constantly stress to my students is the setting of
goals. If you keep you mind on the goals than the process becomes less of
a strain. If they recognize that the process is part of achieving the
goal, than the process can actually become more enjoyable. Primarily
because they will see progress toward that goal. If they take a moment to
think back, they will see how far they have come, even though it seemed as
if little progress was being made at the time.

I use the analogy of a man climbing Mr. Everest. I ask them what the man
sitting on top was thinking about on the way up. If they say that he was
thinking about how tired he was, or how cold it was, or how hungry he was,
I stop them (I had one them me he was probably thinking about his wife).
Then I tell them that it was the man who quit, and went back to the bottom
of the hill, who was thinking about those things. The primary thought of
the man who made to the top, was thinking about making to the top.

As a wise old friend of mine once said, "If you aim at nothing, you will
probably hit it". (That's probably a quote from some famous writer, but
since I heard first from an old friend I will attribute it to him for now).

motivation)

Every student has something that urges him/her on to get better. On the
other hand, again, I want to emphasize the enjoyment of the process. And a
positive interaction between teacher and student. I smile and laugh a lot
in lessons, and the students do too. And almost always there is progress
to
point to: not phony praise, but the real thing at real accomplishment.
