I'm not sure that I properly phrased my thought about this
recurring theme -- which suggests that it's normal or "OK" for beginners
to suffer now as a prerequisite to enjoying music later on. Perhaps I'm
being foolish or shortsighted about this, but it seems to me that if you
don't enjoy it now, you won't enjoy it later either.
I *do* accept that one's pleasure will increase as one's skill
increases. But if it isn't directly pleasurable for its own sake in the
beginning (without an audience), I don't see much hope of it being a
pleasure later on.
