I had the chance to use my gliss (actually, isn't it a portamento when
you smear all the tones and don't go up by 1/2 steps?) in R in B this
last year. I too can really stretch it out by using the same technique
that Teri mentioned. I really agree with the finger roll bit and jaw
drop. My main comment: Don't learn how to do it! I have been fighting
keeping a crisp altissimo ever since I started doing the gliss in H.S.
You really have to keep awake to avoid smearing between those high
notes. Probably the worst thing I ever learned!
But...It was great to watch everybody's eyes bug out during the concert
when I nailed it.

P.S.to Lelia: Raised in San Anselmo/Fairfax and remember the beaches
well (especially on Senior Cut Day). I live in the East Bay now, but
would move back in a heart beat. One thing: In the East Bay, everybody
drives 70-75 mph on the freeway. In Marin, they all drive 60 mph.
Happens when you cross the Richmond/San Rafael Bridge (connector between
the two places). Definite change of latitude (J. Buffet).
