I apologize for using a Golf analogy again, however I am going to anyway.
There was a time when I could shoot in the low 80's, when I played more
often. Now that I hardly ever play I am back up to the high 90's. I had
much more fun in the 80's.

Once, I expressed my disappointment with myself in front of a young student
when I failed to follow the key signature. He looked at me and said,
"Music is supposed to be fun". I replied (perhaps wrongly, according to
some), I have much more fun when I play the right notes.

I receive the greatest enjoyment when I am making the greatest advancements
in my playing. Does that mean that I don't enjoy playing when things
aren't going well. NO. But it is a matter of degrees. There is a
difference between the person who enjoys singing, even though he can't
carry a tune in a bucket, and the person who can, but doesn't. The first
one. doesn't know the difference. Hence, as the old saying goes,
"Ignorance is Bliss".

Why I continued I'll never know

Buried in this thread is the concept that music isn't pleasurable
unless you can do it right. If I were an instructor, I hope that I
could avoid this fatal trap. Why do people sing to themselves even
though the best they can muster is a monotone or a screech? Because
they don't enjoy it?
