I haven't been reading ALL the posts on this thread (the drawback to getting
the digest!), but a possible explanation for the pit parts in the listing
not agreeing with players' past experiences is that there are frequently
multiple arrangements for a show.
In addition to the full arrangement that was used in the full production,
you can usually get what's called a "combo arrangement", which has been
reduced for a smaller pit. I've also played some shows where the publisher
will just send the books from the full arrangement that they "recommend" for
a smaller group.
