Subj: [kl] Dyslexia and Music Students

You may not be aware that you have a student with Dyslexia. I certainly did
not find out about mine until they created a name for it besides "stupid".
Actually I'm glad they have done away with the dunce cap. But what today
can be done musically when a student keeps seeing the wrong note and
ultimately uses memory sometimes to no good as to memorize the mistakes???

I recall that for my college entrance exam the recital was three of 12
very demanding etudes and only one by choice. I had to memorize all 12.

Solfeggio class was a horro. Although I was the best at it and did
everything cut time I had no choice by to lock myself away to get the
sightreading and dictation just to keep my grade above 3.8

In fact it was a nightmare. I could go nowhere and have no social life all
I could do was practise and study until my dreams at night were full of the
same thing.

My point: What on earth can be done to make things easier for the kids who
love music and are dyslexic but whant to achieve?
