In my area, there are two home school bands, one a beginning group another a
more advanced group and these organizations are growing, as is the band
program at our local Catholic school. Here homeschooling parents have taken
the lead to provide more social experiences similar to those the children
would have available in public schools, but without what the parents
perceive as a value conflict.
One of my students is home schooled and I find that he tends to work harder
at it than some of the public school students I have had. It is an
individual thing in the end, I think, but at least parents here are thinking
of their children's social and artistic learning needs. BTW, I do not home
school, but would consider it if one of my children needed it.
