This is a discussion that should probably be conducted off the list, since
it does not pertain to the Clarinet either directly or indirectly.
However, I would like to make one comment concerning the development of
interpersonal skills in Home Schooled children.

They have as much chance to develop all the skills necessary to live in
this world that Abraham Lincoln, and other great leaders of our country,
had before the advent of public education. The home schooling community in
my area is quite large. There are a number of activities available to
build interpersonal skills, and more on the way. It is a mistake to think
that, somehow, you absolutely must have the government's help in order to
raise your children to be productive citizens. Whether you use public,
private, or home schooling, it is still the responsibility of the parent to
educate their children. Because of a lack of skills in a particular area a
parent may delegate that responsibility to another organization, but they
should never, (as I fear may have happened in our great land many times),
abdicate their responsibility.

Homeschooling can include lots of interpersonal contact such as in
participating in dance training, art classes or volunteering in the
community. My own kid was a 4H officer, helped at the library and
performed with a professional dance company.
A lot of school social contact is not positive. What percentage of the
student population actually gets to foster leadership skills? Much of
high school is about trying to figure out the system and getting by the
best you can. That is why band is such a safe haven for many.
