At our school, we have a pretty big band program and our directors never
teach any of our students. It is probably because they don't have time to
give private lessons and it is more important for them to direct, not give
private lessons on whatever they play. I believe it is more important for the
director to focus on teaching the group, rather than working with
individuals. We have most of our private teachers come to our school to teach
many of the people. Because most of the private teachers are filled, a lot of
the people take lessons at near by music shops. It might be because we have a
wonderful band program but none the less, anyone should be able to take
private lessons pretty close by.
