Perhaps my statement seemed a bit overgeneralized. I do have several
friends who are wonderful musicians but who lack exceptional talent in
academics. However, if you were to compare students in my school Wind
Ensemble to students chosen randomly from the rest of the student body, you
would find that the music students tend to take harder classes and receive
better grades than students in that random draw. This would also apply to
students in drama, choir, and orchestra, for example, and I believe a
similar trend would exist in any school. But in no way would I claim that
ALL music students are academically talented.
