No problem but you missed my point a bit. I pointing out that a student
could *choose* to keep the homework down by just taking *minimum*
requirements *if* they wanted to spend a lot of time practicing the
clarinet. Some participants in this discussion felt that it was ok to let
grades in other courses slide for the sake of clarinet practice. I happen
to disagree with that. The core classes should never be allowed to slide.
If the grades in electives slide, then don't take them as there is no point.

By the way, I was like you. Took all the classes I could and most were
advanced college prep type courses. Rarely did I have a study hall and some
semesters I even scheduled out lunch to get in everything I wanted. In four
years, I had five years of science classes for example. I was in band,
chorus, drama, debate, basketball, and tennis. Never once did I permit my
grades to slide and I put in 30 minutes per day clarinet practice almost
everyday.
