I'm going to jump in here. I have two perspectives: 1.) as a former teacher
who made a considerable portion of my living teaching privately.

2.) As a parent whose son has a myriad of activities.

There are times when I cancel my sones lesson so he can do something equally
important. School play dress rehearsal for example, or a best friends
birthday outing to the local theme park.

To be fair to his teacher, I always give 24 hours notice, ALWAYS pay for the
lesson, and try to schedule a make-up lesson.

This has worked well for the past three years, my son has a great violin
teacher, she is happy, and stress has been eliminated. I have paid for
lessons not taken, but I don't view this as a problem.

What do others think of this approach??
