I've never had trouble here about getting paid. I only have one private
student where it doesn't run over the bank. He's always late paying because
his family has real trouble getting the money, but so far, they have always
paid me. When I lived in Utah, I had to worry about getting paid with every
single student I had. Some never did pay me. One still has a Rubank method I
loaned. They were so dishonest. I'm so glad I don't have to worry about
those things any more. I feel very fortunate with the way it's run here in
Germany.

I look at that policy, and think - WOW.
The thing is that it comes down to how we are classified as to us working,
and being employed. Folks with a "normal job" (yeh, just bustin on us
musicians ;) get paid vacation, bonuses ($2-5 K my wife gets almost yearly
as bonus money), personal paid days off, sick days, personal days etc.
Other side of it is as a business owner (single ownership) is sick,
vacation, etc - he doesn't get a dime.
So how do we classify ourselves? The student of mine who didn't show up
that didn't pay was a pretty unique event. I maybe get 2-3 cancels a week,
but always have 3-5 students that I could easily put in their place for a
makeup, etc. - often I just enjoy the break! My less serious students I
teach every other week - they know if they cancel the lesson that they
won't see me for a month - that alone is an incentive not to cancel, and
for the most part, they don't.
