I had a feeling the money topic would come up as a by-product of
this thread. Collecting money from the kids and/or their parents
is a pain in the a**, especially with the flakiness that often
accompanies the desire for lessons. The solution, of course, is
to draw up a contract, in firm and unambiguous terms, to be signed
by the parents, wherein it is understood that lessons will be paid
for in advance. Conditions should be clearly indicated with respect
to how much advance notice of lesson cancellation is required in
order to avoid forfeiture of the lesson fee for that day. I've
had way too many headaches over the years dealing with irresponsi-
ble students and flaky parents. Now, parents pay for their kids'
lessons 4 lessons in advance, with 24-hours required advance notice
of lesson cancellation. Contracts have been signed, with copies
made and given to the parents for reference. If a student doesn't
show for his/her scheduled lesson, or if they cancel the lesson
with less than 24 hours advance notice, I keep the fee which I
have already received.

And oh do I ever know what W.T.F. stands for!
