Dee, I like your idea of tricking the kid into playing five minutes.
Also, I think some kids need to be taught how to practice - What to do
first, second, third, next, next to last and last. I do this with my
students and I even give them a list to follow. Some people may call this
spoon feeding, but, well, we spoon feed infants before they learn to feed
themselves - Once a student learns how to practice, s/he can structure his
or her own practice time and it is so much easier to "get into it".
