even exist?"

Simple. Some people can study with all the best teachers, use all the
right equipment, and it just never happens because they do not do what they
are told. Unfortunately, these same people pass on what they actually do,
which is a scary thought. My first year in college, I had a teacher who
taught an anchored tongue, even though our band section was dreadful,
because people were not articulating together. I have never played with
such, and he was always impressed with how cleanly I played. Go figure.
I try never to horn in on other teachers' students, but I will correct
particularly abhorrent habits when I see them, assuming that my colleague
would do the same if he or she were there to see what was going on.
