Isn't that the way it goes...

When i have that situation as a teacher, i look for ways to make the
instrument and practicing interesting. Often there is a way to catch or
generate some interest.

I was a not very motivated piano student for many years, clarinet
lessons were my request and motivation.
In part that was contrariness. But looking back, one of the big
differences was that i am bettered suited to clarinet than piano.
Clarinet was satisfying in more ways and i generally enjoyed practicing.
I wanted to play piano, but did not consistantly enjoy the process and
practicing. Now i can analyse why that was true -- i have always been
most responsive to ensemble, tone color, texture.

I do not regret any of the skill and education i got thru piano lessons.
I do wish i did not so much believe the labels "lazy" "sloppy", and the
bad habits i learned in enforced practicing.

I picture Mrs. Iva Ginkle Dunham sitting on a cloud with her piano
laughing every time she looks down and sees me with a reluctant
unmotivated student or those rare moments when my rusty piano skills are
useful.
