Voicing, air speed, lip placement, and Reed-MP are all things that can be
quickly adjusted in a younger student to get a good sound. I do it all the
time - not exagerating. I put a good combo Reed-MP, show the student how to
position his lip, lip pressure, cheeks, etc. and support the sound, and
boom - much better tone.

Of course the quality may vary ;)

The 5 minutes with Tony would be 5 minutes of me shaking his hand ;)
If Bill Stickevers is still a member of this list, he can maybe back me up
on my diagnostic speed. He was one of the winners of the Audition
Competition this past ClarFest, and I worked with him for it. A couple of
words well placed can make a big difference. Of course to make major
changes takes time, but to diagnose a problem often does not - especially
in a younger student.
