To all,

I thought that I would give a brief report on the Clarfest 2000 that was
held at Kennesaw State last Saturday.

My portion went fine, considering the fact that the accompanist showed up
5 minutes before my performance section. Joe Eller was my clinician, and
he was very complimentary. The only thing he critiqued was the fact that
there were time that I would not support my sound fully during the andante
portion of "Solo de Concours". It gave him an excellent opportunity to
show to the audience and myself some tips to help in this area.

The rest of the Master Class performers treated us to a morning of Brahms,
Mozart and Saint Saens.

The bulk of the comments made by Joe Eller and Daniel Silver had to do with
developing a greater dynamic range.
Techniques on having intensity even while playing pianissimo during a solo.
Some were more timid than others, but all in all it was a great
opportunity to see some young talent.

In the afternoon we were treated to a joint Recital by Mr. Eller and Mr.
Silver. Daniel Silver performed the: Premiere Sonata for Clarinet and
Piano , by Francois Devienne; Alt.Music.Ballistix(for clarinet and tape) (a
rather strange but interesting piece, I might add); and the Peregi Verbunk
for Clarinet and Piano, Op. 40, by Leo Weiner.

Joe Eller performed the Sonata for Flute (Violin) and Piano, Op. 94, by
Sergie Prokofiev

The final selection was the Sonata for Two Clarinets, by Francis Poulenc.

A number of the local Vendors were also present including Opus Winds which
is a local supplier of Sheet Music, located in Decatur, GA. They had a
large selection of Clarinet Methods and Solos. My wife kept a close eye me
while I perused all the goodies.

It was an extremely enjoyable way to spend a Saturday. Especially since I
was able to meet some people who are on the list. I guess I did OK, they
still talked to me afterwards. I don't know if other large metropolitan
areas have similar activities on a yearly basis, but it provides a
wonderful opportunity for young (and old) students to perform and learn.

Hope that this wasn't too long.
