Goodness and Fame
A writer wrote this for the Los Angeles Times.

"In 1933 Australian-born broadcaster Clive James helped prepare a list
of 250 names of the 20th century.

Placido Domingo was out because his name was known to everyone on earth
who liked the sounds of good singing.

Luciano Pavarotti was known even to people who couldn't tell good
singing from bad, so he was in."
