Walter, I've found that some mouthpieces play better with a concavity.
Most Gigliotti mouthpieces that I've refaced played much better with a
carefully applied concavity than they did with a flat table. It seems to
help deep baffle mouthpieces which have too much resistance or a shallow
sound when the table is flat. Personally, my main mouthpiece, along with
my 4 spares, all have flat tables. It's a good piont that you're making,
though. I think that several people will discover that their mouthpieces
don't have flat tables.
