Patty Smith asked about instances of super-gluing broken tenons on clarinets. I
have two personal examples to relate. The first is from when I was a kid and
inherited my older brother's plastic Vito clarinet after he gave up playing. I
dropped the clarinet and it broke in half (in the body, not the tenon actually).
I was so afraid to tell my folks that I glued it back together with two-part
epoxy, and much to my surprise, it held up for the next two years until I
switched to bass clarinet. The second example is recent --- I purchased a
broken-in-half (again in the body) hard-rubber Triomphe "A" clarinet, and glued
it back together, this time with super-glue. The break was so clean that after I
sanded the joint line, it disappeared almost completely. Granted, I'm extra
careful not to put too much torque or bending on this clarinet, but I've been
playing this clarinet in orchestra for half a year now, and so far, so good!
