It is unlikely to be a long-term fix, but it is hardly horrific. Depending
on exactly where the break is and how clean it was, glueing can work, at
least for a while, and is not out of the ordinary. If (when) it breaks
again, a tenon rebuild will be in order, but this is much more expensive.
As far as playability or tone is concerned, assuming it was done properly,
it should have zero effect. Your student has been bought some time to shop
for a better instrument and still has a backup/marching horn available.
