Oliver Messian's "Quartet for the End of Time was written while he was in a
prison camp. It is my understanding that he wrote the quartet for the only
instruments available at the camp or for the only people in camp that could
play. I think there are many sources with information concerning Messian and
the quartet. Good Luck.
